McCandless Ranch Jeep Trip

Saturday, October 21, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The Kona Historical Society offers you another rare opportunity for adventure, through privately owned McCandless Land and Cattle Company, on the slopes of Mauna Loa. You’ll begin this historic tour at Ranch headquarters in south Kona and meander by van through Kona’s most pristine and intact native forest, rich with endemic flora and fauna. The drive through what was once home to the Alala (Hawaiian crow) will take you to the 4500 ‘ elevation to the aviary where the birds were studied extensively. Insight to the research will be provided before you proceed to the family cabin at the 5800’ level to enjoy a deli lunch, refreshments and historical talk.

Reservations are required and you must be a current KHS member to attend. Joining and signing up is easy! Just give us a call (808-323-3222) or click here if you need to join or renew. Reservations are $170 and must be made before Monday, October 16 along with a waiver. A deli lunch and refreshments will be provided but be sure to bring extra water, walking shoes and sun protection. Give us a call if you have any questions or would like to sign up by phone: 808-323-3222. This trip is limited and tends to fill up so reserve your spot today!
